Readable and practical

While the title may suggest that the book promotes a narrow way of thinking, the opposite is true. Standish has written a compelling book that is designed to help any Christian, regardless of denomination, seek and find a balance in his/her faith life. Following the narrow path means rejecting extremism while trusting God to lead us. How we practice our faith is not a matter of being "right," Standish observes. The various divisions within Christendom have come as people have tried to find a different path, one that integrates experiences,forms of worship, or understanding of God that have been largely missing. There are actually a number of paths that can be taken; the question is what is the right one for you. Further, we need to be willing to explore other paths to add balance and completeness to our spiritual lives.
One of the ways we need balance is in how we experience God; rather than focusing solely on God the Creator (as Eternal Presence, source of morality, ethics, truth, and law), or on Jesus (as the Incarnated Presence), or the Holy Spirit (as the Inspiring Power), we need to walk a Trinitarian Path and relate to God in all three ways. Another way to add balance is through integration of theology (the intellectual aspect), religion (church participation), and spirituality (forming a love relationship with God). Too often we ignore one or more of these. Other paths include the Healing Path, the Servant Path, the Mystical Path. In these and other areas Standish provides a clarity of vision and a fresh approach that will help individuals, alone or in groups, enlarge their vision and discover the narrow path of faith so that they can discover and experience God more fully. This book is a gem.

Graham Standish has written a very spiritual book. It covers much ground in eight chapters, which provides many opportunities to reflect on the content and to answer five questions posed which challenge you to put the impact of the chapter on you personally and how it fits into your own unique pattern of belief.

There are also opportunities for the book to be used in small group or larger settings, it would be ideal as a learning tool for a Lent or other course.

The group leader is provided with materials to use for each session and I believe it would be a rewarding activity, which would enable those participating to grow and to develop as Christians.

David Millan Escriva

David Millan Escriva was eight years old when he wrote his first program on an 8086 PC with BASIC language, which enabled the 2D plotting of BASIC equations. He started with his computer development relationship and created many applications and games. In 2005, he completed his studies in IT from the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia with honors in human-computer interaction supported by Computer Vision with OpenCV (v0.96). He had a final project based on this subject and published it on HCI Spanish Congress. He participated in Blender source code, an open source and 3D-software project, and worked in his first commercial movie, Plumiferos―Aventuras voladoras, as a computer graphics software developer. David now has more than 13 years of experience in IT, with more than nine years of experience in Computer Vision, computer graphics, and pattern recognition, working on different projects and start-ups, applying his knowledge of Computer Vision, optical character recognition, and augmented reality. He is the author of the DamilesBlog (http://blog.damiles.com), where he publishes research articles and tutorials on OpenCV, Computer Vision in general, and optical character recognition algorithms. Vinicius Godoy

Vinicius Godoy is a computer graphics university professor at PUCPR. He started programming with C++ 18 years ago and ventured into the field of computer gaming and computer graphics 10 years ago. His former experience also includes working as an IT manager in document processing applications in Sinax, a company that focuses in BPM and ECM activities, building games and applications for Positivo Informatica, including building an augmented reality educational game exposed at CEBIT and network libraries for Siemens Enterprise Communications (Unify). As part of his Master's degree research, he used Kinect, OpenNI, and OpenCV to recognize Brazilian sign language gestures. He is currently working with medical imaging systems for his PhD thesis. He was also a reviewer of the OpenNI Cookbook, Packt Publishing. He is also a game development fan, having a popular site entirely dedicated to the field called Ponto V (http://www.pontov.com.br). He is the cofounder of a startup company called Blackmuppet. His fields of interest includes image processing, Computer Vision, design patterns, and multithreaded applications.

A classic reference, but a bit dry...

After 50 years, this still probably packs more historical fact in one place than any other book on the history of telescopes. But it's also dry reading. Great for the serious amateur, but not for the casual reader. If you're looking for an entertaining historical account, that includes the politics and personalites behind the telescopes in addition to the dryer facts, try Fred Watson's new book, Stargazer: The Life and Times of the Telescope.

A somewhat dated reprint , but still excellent!

This is a case where the title pretty much says it all. This is a reprint of Henry C. King's classic , originally published in 1955.
The time span covers pretty much the beginnings of visual astronomy through the Mount Palomar 200" Hale telescope. A particularly interesting era is the 18th century , with many notable advances made in glass manufacture and beginning of very large reflecting telescopes in the hands of Sir William Herschel. As the author moves into the 19th century , the names of Joseph Fraunhofer and Alvan Clark take center stage.
The invention of many other auxilliary astronomical instruments are also included in this fine work.
There aren't many other works for comparison , so --- 5 stars!

Basically ECG's for Dummies

My Dental office where I work has this book. I just flipped some pages through it and loved how it walked you through it. But, what caught my attention was the very back of the book where it had dozens of rythmn's for you to interpret on your own. I cannot tell how how many times I have seen these rythmns on ACLS tests, tests for employment (I work Emergency Room too) and for continuing education through the Hospital's Education and Development.

I'm getting one to keep as a refresher and now that both daughters have graduated Nursing school this will make it easier for them. A very understandable book.
